When Domicile data exists for a carrier, all routes for that carrier will be domicile based. All domicile based routes will include a Tractor Domicile and Tractor Equipment Type. The Equipment Category for Equipment Types will control how routes are created:
Tractor: When category is "Tractor", a separate Tractor Equipment Type and Tractor Domicile will be assigned when routing is performed for a load not on a trip, a NOF (A/P), Rate Quotation (A/P) or a Shipment Leg. The Trailer Equipment Type will be a different Equipment Type enabled for the same tariff/ service combination as the Tractor Equipment Type. Equipment Category for the Trailer Equipment will be "Trailer". If routing is performed for a trip, a separate Trailer Equipment Type and Trailer Domicile will be assigned to each load on the trip. The same piece of cargo equipment could be used for consecutive loads on the trip's itinerary, or a separate trailer could be used for each load.
Trailer: Addressed in description for "Tractor".
Tractor/Trailer: When category is "Tractor/Trailer", a separate Trailer Equipment Type and Trailer Domicile will be not be assigned. "Tractor/Trailer" will be used to represent equipment where power and cargo is combined (for example, straight truck, single-unit truck). Since the cargo area is not detachable from the power source, only the power equipment will be managed for this category.
Undefined: The "Undefined" category will typically be used to provide backwards compatibility for customers immediately after migrating to Transportation Manager / Transportation Planner 6.3.2. To keep consistent with pre-6.3.2 functionality, Trailer Domiciles are not assigned when category is "Undefined". A single Equipment Type is assigned for Loads not on a Trip, NOFs (A/P), Rate Quotations (A/P) or Shipment Legs. For trips, the Trailer Equipment for the first load on the trip will also represent the Tractor Equipment Type for the trip. The equipment types assigned to other loads on the trip will be interpreted exclusively as Trailer Equipment Types.
