Weekend / Holiday Scheduling: Maintaining Break Time

Scheduling will conditionally insert an implied break to account for the weekend / holiday break. This interval is captured as a separate time value for loads and trips. It is also included in the total elapsed time for the load. It is not included in the off-duty time, total waiting time, on duty time, driving time, loading time or unloading time.

Weekend / Holiday Break time can be used as a Rating Unit.

Total Weekend / Holiday Break Time cannot exceed value for Maximum Weekend / Holiday Break Time, expressed in hours and portions thereof. This maximum is defined in the Tariff Restrictions that can be associated with a Tariff Service, Tariff Lane or Tariff Service Equipment Type.

When driving resumes after the weekend / holiday break, scheduling will assume that driver will have just taken a full break. No allowance will be made for the fact that driver will likely be resuming the trip from a different location.

For example: If the weekend / holiday break occurred after making a pickup at the origin, driving may resume at the carrier’s facility rather than the location of the load’s first stop. This location could be further from the next stop than the location of the last stop before the break.

The weekend / holiday break will also be inserted into the schedule for a load being handled by team drivers, if applicable. Potentially, only one member of the team may perform the initial pickup or final delivery.

If load is attached to a trip, the same rules will be enforced from the perspective of the trip’s itinerary: for breaks at origin, weekend / holiday break cannot occur after any stop that is more than xxx miles/kilometers from the location of the first stop on the first load for the trip; for breaks at destination, all stops performed after weekend / holiday break must be no more than xxx miles/kilometers from the location of the final stop on the last load for the trip.

Weekend / holiday break time will not be included in the Transit Time from previous stop. This time interval is captured in the Stop and Rate Quotation Scheduling Information tables. Weekend / Holiday Break Time is maintained as a separate column in these two tables. The actual start and end dates/times for the break are also captured at stop level.
